जीवन सूत्र (Jeevan Sutra)

सत्यं ब्रूयात्प्रियं ब्रूयान्न ब्रूयात्सत्यामाप्रियम् ।
प्रियं च नानृतं ब्रूयादेष धर्मः सनातनः ।। { मनुस्मृति ~ ४-१३८ }

ऐसी सत्य बात कहनी चाहिए जो प्रिय भी हो, तथा ऐसा सत्य जो सत्य तो हो परन्तु प्रिय न हो नहीं कहना चाहिये । ऐसी बात जो प्रिय तो हो पर सत्य न हो, वह भी नहीं कहनी चाहिए । जो प्रिय भी हो और सत्य भी हो, ऐसी बात ही कहनी चाहिए; यही सनातन धर्म है ।

One must speak that which is true and which is pleasing, and one must not speak the truth which is true but which is not pleasing. That which is pleasing but not true should also not be spoken. That which is both true and pleasing should only be spoken; that is the eternal Dharma. { Manusmriti ~ 4.138}
